You know yourself the best. But still, when it comes to describing yourself in an interview, it is still an uphill task for most of us.  And we all know it is the first impression that matters the most. Because, if the introduction goes well, it’s like half the battle is yours.  It is said that the first impression can affect the way how the employer will perceive you as a candidate. The first part of the interview will make or break it, either in your favor or not. You will not want to come across as an awkward person lacking in social skills. Rather, you would want to show that your professionalism and social skills can be an asset to the company.

Some hiring managers may even reject a candidate based on a first poor first impression.  For example, showing up late or checking your phone throughout the interview. This can lead the hiring manager to perceive the candidate as having an inability to make a commitment, meet deadlines, focus, and follow-through, which are not qualities that will impress an employer. 

Because, just remember, little things like this will make a big difference at this stage of a job search. That's why it's important to pay enough attention to your interview manners and think about how you will introduce yourself during the job interview.

1. How to behave in an interview? Know what to say and what to do when you arrive at your interview:

 

Be prepared to make a quick introduction to the person who is there to greet you when you arrive. Introduce yourself by stating your name and your purpose of the visit.

For example, “My name is XYZ and I have an interview scheduled with Mr. ABC at 10 am today”

 

Be courteous and respectful to the first contact in the company. Many companies take their impression of the first contact and that may have an adverse effect on your interview. Don’t act rudely or dismissively as that may even hurt your chance to get the job even before the interview.

 

2. How do you behave in an interview? Know your etiquettes when you meet your interview manager:

 

You may have to wait a few minutes before you get to meet your interview manager. Then you will either be escorted to the interview room or the interview manager will come out to greet you.
